Portland Hospital creates "Pink Glove Dance" for a Cause

Shea-Noel Interiors, Inc, is a proud supporter of the efforts and research of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

We want to thank one of our clients for sending us this video.

Providence St.Vincent's Medical Center in Portland, Oregon put together this video to spread awareness for Breast Cancer through their hospital system.  As you can see in the video below, Medline has a new line of pink gloves - which is worn by the cast of this video.

This is a great way to help spread awareness, and is a lot of fun to watch.

Please share this with as many people as you know - Medline will be offering free mammograms to the community once the view count reaches 1 million. Here is an excerpt from the email.

Emily (MacInnes) Somers, created, directed and choreographed this in Portland last week
for her Medline glove division as a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. This was
all her idea to help promote their new pink gloves. I don't know
how she got so many employees, doctors and patients to
participate, but it started to really catch on and they all had a
lot of fun doing it.

When the video gets 1 million hits, Medline will be making a huge
contribution to the hospital, as well as offering free mammograms
for the community. Please check it out. It's an easy and great
way to donate to a wonderful cause, and who hasn't been touched by
breast cancer?

Enjoy the Pink Glove Dance! And thank you Stephanie!

Prepare to Deck your Halls

Christmas is around the corner, and even though you have been seeing trees, tinsel and other holiday goodies in the stores since AUGUST, chances are you intend to put that tree up after Thanksgiving.

Before our SNI team of elves show you how to have folks screaming for mistletoe around the house, we want you to be ready.
*****
Here's our suggestion list:

1. CLEAN :: Sorry, I know. Vacuum, dust, pull furniture away from the walls, wipe down base boards and mop.  Also take this time to wipe down your staircase, clean the edges of each step and just get your entire home cleaned up.

Holiday decor will be up and collecting dust for a good 5 weeks, so no need to add to it by not preparing properly.

2. PLAN :: Where do you want trees? How many can you deal with? What do you remember liking/disliking about your decor last year? Ask yourself these questions, then be sure to purchase or find all of your decor to make it happen.

3. GATHER :: Climb into the attic and start unloading all of the loot you intend to decorate with. Get it all down and dust off the boxes.

4. INVENTORY :: If you are going to be taking advantage of the upcoming how-to blogs from us, make sure you know what you have, and what you don't.  Now, here's what you will need.

           - Tree, ornaments, family ornaments, tree skirt, lights, ribbon and other decor you are in love with.
           - Garland for staircases, chandeliers, etc.
           - Floral wire
           - Floral tape
           - Ladder
           - *ting ting*, *curly q's*, festive floral stems.  Basically accent items to *stuff* into your masterpieces.

5. SHOPPING :: While we order a lot of our things ahead of time, all is not lost for you.  Old Time Pottery or Hobby Lobby, etc. will have similar items.  Or you can always get online and pick out your things there.

6. ORGANIZE :: Once your shopping is done, organize all of your new purchases. Separate out items by where they will be going.

*****
Now you are all set and ready to go.  We will post more in a bit on the details to make it all magical once you are past this point.

Happy Designing!

Deck the Halls Shea-Noel Interiors Style

It's that time of year again.

CHRISTMAS!!!

With a firm named Shea-Noel? You can bet we are excited. Roughly translated? Shea-Noel means "Majestic Christmas" in French, and we live it every year.

This year though, you all are in for a treet.

That's right.

A TREET.

A tree decked to the T. We are ramping up to Deck the Halls in a few places this week, and will be showing you all, our loyal fans, how to do a few things on your own.

We will be filling our blog like a stocking for you all to love and try out at home! Get out your mistletoe and get ready to shine at those parties you will hosting.  Shea-Noel is getting on the ladder and decking the halls!

Thank you to Chi Omega

We would like to take a moment to say thank you to the awesome women at Chi Omega Executive Headquarters for inviting our Shandra Blackwell to speak with them about the benefits of interior design and to update them on interior design happenings throughout the country!

For those of you who do not know, Chi Omega is headquartered in Memphis, TN and their building is magnificent.

Thank you again for taking the profession of Interior Design to heart as well as the Safety, Health and Welfare of your membership.

Why Children Love the Creative Process

In most of today's modern workplaces you find one thing consistently missing. Children.

We get it. They scream, you have to tend to them, nap times, etc. throughout the day caring for kids in an office arena can interfere with the operations of a high profile office. Well, this past summer our Principal Designer, Shandra Blackwell, was on a mission to take advantage of improved workflow processes put into place during Q2. She decided it was time to add to the services Shea-Noel Interiors, Inc. offered and expand to include a few more arenas.

Outside of a high profile interior design firm, a new children's clothing company: Crowned Couture; and a new division that will soon be launched - Shandra decided that she also wanted to have her children in the office throughout the summer. We aren't going to say here that she is a super mom, because she HATES that label.

What we will say here is that she is an amazing multi-tasker. After finding the right child care provider to work in the office, Blackwell and her husband set out on a journey that changed their view on the way they lived. At the heart of every interior designer, is interior design. And at the heart of every child is play. Blackwell combined the two.

"Everyday when the children would come into the office after their baths, I would stop what I was doing and spend 15-20 minutes with them answering questions they had about all of the things in the office.  I challenged them with artistic projects, building ideas and ways they could go green and help the planet.  Everyday was a learning experience for myself, my children and amazingly - Shea-Noel Interiors."

Now we have learned to multi-task with the best of them while still maintaining our workload... and to think a little more creatively than we already did.

And we now have the answer for the heading of this post.  *Why Children Love the Creative Process*

Because in order to stay creative - you have to include children and including them? Keeps you young.

Happy Designing!

No Name Crock-Pot Concoction

I have burned cheerios on the stove.

I have destroyed a pan making tea.

I have ruined the love of a home cooked pan cake breakfast.

But tonight? I cooked.

Yes. It's not a typo. I, Shandra, cooked a meal tonight and didn't harm anyone in the process.

If you don't know? Cooking isn't a forte of mine.  I am NOT going to add that to the list of things I enjoy doing, or attempt to be good at. But, I will say it was good in the aspect of taste. The kids ate it. The neighbors enjoyed it. But best of all, when I told my husband *dinner is cooked*? He was speechless.  He ate it, liked it and lived to tell about it.

So here goes a first for me.  A recipe.

No Name Crock-Pot Concoction by: Shandra Blackwell

1 can of chili hot beans
1 can of potatoes
1 can of black beans
1 box of farfalle noodles
1 can of rotel
1 can of chicken broth
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 teaspoon of black pepper
2 cups of water
2 cups of Velveeta cheese

Turn the crock pot on low. Combine everything BUT THE CHEESE. Cover, cook for 3 hours.
Cut up the Velveeta into small chunks, and add into the crock pot about 30 minutes prior to serving.

DONE.

Now, I am not going to comment on how it looks...but as a mom on the run - it was perfect. I hope you all enjoy it - We've added it to our easy list and if I were a girl scout? I would've earned a badge.

Happy trails! Shandra

University of Memphis Gets a Gift

GO TIGERS GO!

We were all singing the praises of the Interior Design students from the University of Memphis Last week as Shea-Noel Interiors, Inc. loaded up one of their vehicles with discontinued goodies from the SNI library.

Furthering student involvement in the field of interior design and helping to provide viable sources for their interior design projects is a practice Shea-Noel has practiced for many years. We've very much enjoyed being able to see how their projects change, grow and also to host many of thier students in both of their programs as SNI interns.

We want to congratulate the Interior Design students at the University of Memphis for their efforts in furthering their education in the profession of Interior Design and helping us to recycle our unusable books and samples! Happy Designing!

Dear Twitter :: We like seesmic over Tweetdeck

Dear Twitter,

We have broken up with Tweetdeck and have started dating Seesmic.

It's true, and we aren't scared to tell the world.

We really like the lists application, and the sweet little charming sounds it makes when we receive new information.

We have been loving since installation.

Thank you Twitter for not developing software as good as the Twitter Clients out there so that we must rely on other people to make you look good.

With Love.

Again, we will just restate that we would love to have you participate, just a few ground rules ::

1 :: You will be required to provide your name and email address.
2 :: You may NOT be in the interior design, architectural or related industries.
3 :: You have NOT hired an interior designer to date....

Outside of these? Please use this link below to be directed to the survey, and we appreciate you so much!!!
